Dressing for You: Finding Your Style as a Working Mum

It’s a topic dear to me and one of the reasons I became a personal stylist!

Becoming a mother is a life-changing experience in so many ways, including how you dress. Your body, routine, and priorities have shifted, and your wardrobe should evolve to match this new phase. It’s easy to feel lost in a sea of maternity clothes, old favorites that no longer fit the same, and the daily hustle of work and parenting.

Rediscovering your style after pregnancy doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By starting with a wardrobe check, investing in timeless essentials, adding personal touches, and choosing flattering fits, you can build a wardrobe that works for your new lifestyle. Most importantly, dress for yourself, wear what makes you feel confident, comfortable, and happy. You deserve it!

Here are my first 3 Steps to focus on first:

Step 1: Start with a Wardrobe Check

The first step to rebuilding your wardrobe is a good, honest closet detox. Take some time to go through your current collection and remove anything that doesn’t make you feel good anymore. If an item doesn’t fit well, is worn out, or simply doesn’t suit your lifestyle, it’s time to let it go. Hold onto the pieces that make you feel great and align with your new daily routine.

Step 2: Invest in Quality Basics

A strong wardrobe starts with good basics. Investing in a few high-quality staple pieces, such as well-fitted jeans, tailored trousers, a classic blazer, and a few versatile tops, will make getting dressed easier every day. These essentials will serve as the foundation for your outfits and can be mixed and matched effortlessly. Prioritize comfort without compromising on style.

Step 3: Focus on Flattering Fits

Your body may have changed post-pregnancy, and that’s perfectly okay. It will keep changing in the first year and this where a lot of women feel the challenge. The key to feeling good in your clothes is focusing on fit rather than size. Look for silhouettes that flatter your shape. Simplicity often works best: clean lines, classic cuts, and structured shapes tend to be the most flattering and easiest to style.
