Last weekend, I spent a wonderful few days with friends I’ve known for over 30 years. As always, it reminded me just how precious these friendships are and how incredibly lucky I am to have such special people in my life.
We know each other by heart. We celebrate each other’s successes, lift each other up during difficult times, share new ideas, and give each other the confidence to keep growing.
There is something truly special about being surrounded by people who see the best in you, even when you don’t always see it yourself.
Those moments always bring me back to why I do what I do.
People often think personal styling is just about clothes. But for me, it’s more than that.
It’s about helping someone reconnect with themselves.
When my clients leave a wardrobe consultation or a personal shopping session, they rarely talk about the blazer they bought or the perfect pair of jeans we found. Instead, they tell me how much lighter they feel, how getting dressed suddenly feels effortless again, or how, for the first time in a long while, they recognise themselves in the mirror.
That feeling has so much in common with great friendship.
Sometimes we see our friends more clearly than they see themselves. We know they’re intelligent, beautiful, creative and capable, yet they often struggle to recognise those qualities in themselves.
As friends, we naturally encourage one another. We remind each other of our strengths and help each other rediscover our confidence. A styling session can do something very similar.
It isn’t about changing someone or creating a completely new version of them. It’s about uncovering what’s already there and making sure the outside reflects the person they already are.
